    Class starts at 9:00am. Check-In begins at 8:30am

     

    Target Audience:

    * Parole                   

    * Probation

    * Corrections

    * Road Patrol Officers

    * Juvenile Detention Officers

    * Federal Agents

    * Fire/EMS

    * Teachers

    * Counselors

    * Social Workers

    *Individuals who work with at-risk-youth 

    Course Outline: 

    The Basic Gang Specialist Certification Course will provide a brief history on the development of gangs in the United States and expand upon local gangs, prison gangs, female gangs, and gang trends.

    The course will also provide an in-depth explanation of indicators of gang activity to include graffiti, signs, symbols, etc.

    Attendees will also learn how to identify gang members and how to properly document them.

    The course will also offer a brief introduction on testifying in court as a Basic Gang Specialist.

    Students will also learn intervention and prevention strategies as well as officer safety concerns.

    The Written Examination: 

    Students must complete a 100 question written examination at the conclusion of the course. The examination must be successfully completed with a score of 75% or better.

    There will be a one hour time limit for the exam.

    Students who do not achieve at least 75% on the exam will be allowed to review and re-take the exam ONE time. If the student does not pass the re-take exam, they will not receive a certificate or any other items associated with the certification course.

    Certification:

    Successful completion of the examination will add the student's name to a database showing that they have passed the NYGIA Basic Gang Specialist certification exam. This information will allow the student to testify as such in a court of law. All results are kept on file and a certified letter can be requested to be sent to any agency or court in New York State. Uniformed individuals who obtain their certification will receive a "Gang Specialist" service bar.

    The Basic Gang Specialist Certification is a pre-requisite to the NYGIA Advanced Gang Specialist Certification and is valid for 5 years from the date of issue.

    REGISTRATION: $125 Early Bird Registration Fee. Must be received by March 24, 2017. $150 from March 24th to April 16. After April 17, 2017 the Late Registration/Walk-In Fee will be $175

    Course Outline:

    This class is only open to the first 50 people who register for the class.

This information will be kept on record and a certified letter can be requested to be sent to any organization or court in New York State allowing you to testify as a Basic Gang Specialist. Uniformed individuals will also receive a “Gang Specialist” service bar.

    Register online at www.nygia.org or make checks/money orders payable to NYGIA, and mail to NYGIA, P.O. Box 794, Yonkers, NY, 10703.  Conference registration deadline is Friday, July 3, 2017. Registrations after this date will be subject to late registration fee. Attendance is not confirmed until payment is received. Course fee includes light breakfast and training materials.

    The New York Gang Investigators Association is pleased to announce its 2017 10th Annual Gang Training Conference. This training conference will provide the most current and reliable street gang information available to our membership. The NYGIA has gathered an array of speakers from throughout the United States that will focus on the recognition and identification of Latino Gangs, Sovereign Citizens, Prison Gangs, Asian Gangs, Chicago Gangs and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. 

    We also have special guest speakers that will focus on Intervention and Prevention strategies for at-risk youth.
